Ever since the senior students left to prepare for their NCEA examinations, the Year 10 students have taken leadership roles in the college. They have been setting up and leading our morning school assemblies and singing rehearsals. They have also led the boys and staff in prayer and read the school notices. They have prepared and led our advent liturgy and have helped prepare the younger students for Prize-giving.
These young men have also presented speeches to their fellow students and to the staff of the college. Their speeches have been inspiring and heartfelt.
Finn Lloyd talked about preparing for challenges, taking opportunities and not being complacent at school.
Charley Hoeft talked about faith and how through faith we can achieve great things.
John Tangi read the beautiful 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want.”
Joseph Samuels reminded the young men of the college to continue to appreciate the teachers at St Paul's: "Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well."
Sitaleki Jr Tulia told us about his favourite verse, Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart". This is an important message for the young men of the college, especially as we get to the end of another challenging year.
Mateo Afoa talked about the importance of success. In reality success is in the small things. It is all around us, every day.
Sebastian Smith talked about how failing can make us better people. That we can learn from our mistakes and do great things in the future.
Josiah Va'ai Tupai read 2 Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." He reminded his audience to always do the right thing.
Gizza Laile presented the final speech to the junior school this morning. He talked about solidarity. We are stronger together, we are at our best when we are united in thought and action.
We thank these young leaders for their service.
Thanks to Mr Brett McMurdoch, Mr David Ryan and Mr Dominic Schryvers for mentoring these young men on their leadership journey.
Matthew 20:26
But it should not be that way among you. Whoever wants to become great among you must serve the rest of you like a servant.
