On Wednesday this week we celebrated our Inaugural Mass for 2023 at Christ the King Parish in Owairaka. Unfortunately, our College Chaplain, Pa Peter Tipene, was out of action with COVID. Thankfully, Fr Pat Breeze, a long-term friend of St Paul's, stepped in to celebrate the Mass.
It was very special to be able to finally have a full Inaugural Mass again, with 2022's year starting with a stripped-down live-streamed Mass for the Year 12 and 13 students only, due to the COVID restrictions. Our young men sang beautifully, almost lifting the roof off the church. Many of the parents, especially the new Year 7 and 9 parents, were brimming with delight after their first experience of the Paulo Mass. Mr Stanbridge's Mass band sounded tight: a testament to the time and effort poured into these young men over the past years.
We were very proud to witness our Head and Deputy Head Prefects, Michel Tu'akalau, Ethan Ropati-Delaney and Jeriko Filipi-Talisau, welcoming five new prefects to their ranks: Atelea Barron-Afeaki, Richard Faleono, Sio Kali, Seth McCarthy and Maselino Va'auli. We know that these young men will lead with respect and responsibility and wish them the very best in their roles for 2023.
