Basketball 

Six wins from six games this week. A brilliant display from the basketball program.  

U17s winning 80-49 against St Peter’s College, with both U15 Maroon and Blue winning against Waitakere 41-31 and Lynnfield 34-31 respectively.  

Our AIMS team continues to win, despite having had only four players for the first half 56-21 vs STS Hoopers on Thursday night. 

Our 1st V and U15 Yellow won by default with our opposition as a no show. 

The program continues to improve, continues to grow in confidence, and continues to play with grit and determination to win. 

Strong performances from Feleti Fane and Joseph Samuels was a big boost for the U17s who continue to be led by Solomon Nash. 

Malakai Kurata-Lafaele along with AJ Glen, Larenz Pua and Hezza Al Nuaimi (all Year 10) have stepped up to lead and score for the U15s. Preston-David Stanley and Elijah Leaoasavaii (both Year 9) have proven to be extremely good players with talent and drive to help push the team to the next level. 

Jett Nash, Naea Williams and Ebenezer Asnake (all Year 8) have shown to lead the team with class, experience and a sense holding accountability to each player to train to a  high standard. 

We are improving, we are growing, we are a team. 

Rugby League

We are two rounds into the Rugby League season where the Premier 1st XIII has won two from two, beating Aorere 28-10 and Mt Albert Grammar 20-12. This team features Year 11, 12 and 13 students. Coaches Sefo Fuimaono and Mr Ryan have been impressed with the Year 11's making the most of their opportunities including Filipe Fakauho, Zephan Pita-Lafaele and Ezekiel Davidson-Faaiuaso.

Our U15 teams started their grades with wins over Onehunga 10-6 (U15 Blue), whilst U15 Maroon beat Southern Cross 30-12. These teams are a mix of Year 9 and 10 students with an eye on development for the future. All eyes were on both teams yesterday where they played each other in the second game of the season. U15 Maroon eventually coming away winners 38-20. All teams from Under 15 to Premier 1st XIII will need to work harder on defence and fitness as the season progresses.

Rugby Union

The 1st XV played their second home game of the season against local Catholic brothers from St Peter's College. This game was always going to be a tough one against a St Peter's team that had lost one game leading into Saturday's clash. 

The first half had both teams battling for territory but it was St Peter's who struck first with a try in the twenty minute from a set scrum play which caught St Paul's off guard. It wasn't long before St Paul's College posted their first try after dominating St Peter's at the breakdown through forwards Noah Hetutu-Davis, Vincent Ma'afu and Richard Faleono. This sustained pressure allowed electric centre Jeriko Filipi-Talisau to beat two defenders before scoring in the corner. The score at halftime was 12-5 to St Peter's College.

The second half saw the home side, St Paul's College, dominate possession but unable to turn this pressure into points. St Peter's scored first in the second half before Veteran No 8 Maselino Va'auli, who had his best game of the season, carried three St Peter's defenders over the line to score close to the post. The try was converted by Shemaiah Foti to close the gap to 20-12. But from there St Peter's controlled the remainder of the game through sustained pressure and possession.

St Peter's scored a further three tries in the second half to close out the game 37-12. The score line definitely did not reflect the physicality and dominance St Paul's College had during the game. Debuts for the St Paul's College 1st XV, Year 11 Aleki Ettles-Langton and Year 13 Keesen Smith-Nansen, both had strong games for the home side. 

Sio Kali continued his strong form this season proving a menace on attack whenever he touched the ball, while rookie half back Ben Tohi showed his flair around the rucks making big yards on attack. Young loosies Sifa Teisi and John Matini put in some big tackles and shut down a lot of St Peter's forward runners and momentum.

This weekend our 1st XV line up against the best from the west, Liston College, who are travelling well in the 1A Auckland Secondary Schools competition. Fingers crossed that our 1st XV can get the job done and beat Liston College away this Saturday.
