Leeson Ah Mau popped in to visit a number of senior students last week to share his journey as a recently retired NRL player.
After playing nearly 13 years of professional rugby league, including over 200 NRL games for the Warriors and most recently St George Dragons, Leeson now runs a Sports Wellbeing program, where he travels to schools to share his experience and journey, and to encourage our young men at St Paul's on what it takes to be a professional sportsman. Our senior students were given jackets, balls and mouthguards as resources for the remainder of the season.
His key messages to our students were:
- Education is important, Always have a Plan B. You are only an injury away from retirement.
- No excuses - Have a solution focused mindset.
- Have patience, discipline and perseverance. Success might not happen straight away, unless you work hard and be patient.
- Learning to make sacrifices for things you want and love.
