On Wednesday 20 September, the Br. Anselm hall hosted our annual Sports Excellence Awards. An occasion which grows every year where sportsmen and their families celebrate the achievements of our many teams, individuals and our collective accomplishments.
The big winners this year were Jett Nash (Year 8), who took out the Edwin Memorial for Year 7/8 Sportsmen of the year, Troy Fuimaono (Year 10), who won the Brian Stephenson memorial for Under 15 Sportsmen of the year and finally Sio Kali (Year 13), who capped off a big year by winning the St Paul's Coellege shield, for St Paul's best sportsmen.
Other notable winners were the Football Colts and Under 15 Blue rugby league team, who were joint winners for Team of the Year. The Puletiatoa Cup for outstanding service to sport was won by Kyan Henry (Year 11), who also entertained the crowd with his musicianship. The Tevita Uhila memorial was awarded to Solomon Nash (Year 12) for outstanding achievement in academics and sport, whilst the Junior Fiu cup, awarded to the Student Coach of the Year was picked up by Preston Stanley (Year 9).
Thank you to all our prizewinners, their family members, our many volunteer sports staff who all contributed in making 2023 the biggest sport season in recent memory. This year we added several new sports (Football, Orienteering, Lawn Bowls) and we are very ambitious in wanting to grow again in 2024 - watch this space.
