Special Character Update 21 June 2024

Next Friday 28 June is the Feast Day of St Paul and St Peter. Both saints represent the growth of our church and remind us how we too are a part of the mission. St Augustine of Hippo writes "Both apostles share the same feast day, for these two were one; and even though they suffered on different days, they were as one. Peter went first, and Paul followed. And so, we celebrate this day made holy for us by the apostles’ blood. Let us embrace what they believed, their life, their labors, their sufferings, their preaching, and their confession of faith."

This feast day reminds us of the zeal and efforts of St Paul. We are reminded of his sheer effort to spread the early church in foreign lands and dangerous territories. What efforts he went to in sharing the Good News with others. Helping others to see Jesus in context at our own Catholic college is a small task that we can all participate in, joining in the work of Christ to grow the kingdom of God in the here and now.

The feast day also reminds us of the journeys that we might take as followers of Christ. We may all have our ups and downs, have times where we feel far away from Christ and times where we feel very close. St Paul's journey reminds us that no matter how far away from Christ a person may be, there is always a way back - and that way back may lead to giving great glory to God and the growth of the kingdom. Happy Feast Day of St Peter and St Paul.
