News From Your Library 13 September 2024

We celebrate all Language Weeks in the St Paul's Library with decorations, ordering dozens of books on language and culture from the National Library, and creating quizzes, treasure hunts and word games. During Tongan Language Week Ms Manu created daily challenges and word puzzles enjoyed by dozens of students. One of our student librarians, Christian Fa'aui, created a Tongan Kahoot quiz competition at lunchtime with over 50 students entering. Congratulations to Sardius Turua for winning the Kahoot.

The St Paul's Staff and Student Book Club was launched in August, attended by teaching and support staff, and students. We talked about the books we have recently read and enjoyed and shared copies from both the collection and home over a cuppa and muffin. This will be a twice a term activity and it was lovely to see the staff engage with the students in an informal setting.

Book issues are tracking well compared to previous years, and I am pleased to report we have already surpassed the Non-Fiction issuing for the full year of 2023, due to the hundreds of books we order from the National Library which supplement our collection. Please encourage your sons to come and see me about what they are interested in so I can order them a dozen books to choose from on any subject. Examples of recent book orders include boxing, fixing a mobile phone, commercial pilots and karate.

We celebrate the life of King Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII (King of Unity), who said he aimed "To raise the manawa and put a korowai over the whenua and to begin the process of unifying and healing." May he rest in peace.
