Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 27 September

Last week, we celebrated Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. The theme for this year was "Ake ake ake – a forever language."

This week, our students aimed to embody the theme through a range of activities. Whether addressing the school during morning assembly, participating in language week activities during class, or attending the Auckland Central Catholic Kahui Ako Māori Mass, our Māori students set the tone and challenged all students, regardless of culture, to help keep the Māori language alive.

A special well done to Owen Turner, Year 12, who opened the week with a powerful and moving speech. Mita Tate, Year 10, and Makaera Poynter, Year 9, also spoke during the week, highlighting the potential emerging in our junior school. Finally, our Head Prefect, Waka Tate, closed the week, reflecting on how far the language and culture have come and what we can do to continue supporting their growth. Well done!
