All staff met in the College Chapel on Wednesday 22 January for a Staff Reflection. Our new DRS and HOD Religious Education Mrs Smuga, led our reflection and focused on the Marist Pillar of ‘Simplicity’. The reflection was meaningful and included, Gospel readings, deep individual reflection, sharing, hymns and prayers. This was followed by Administrative Information, a wonderful session with our dear Marist Brothers Br Colin and Br Barry - who provided all staff with the meaning of Marist Education and our role as teachers and guides, along with a history of St Paul’s College. We also had the opportunity of celebrating the 90th Birthday of Br Colin with cake cutting and wishing him on his long- standing achievements and association with our college.
On Thursday 23 January, we had presenters from the Ministry of Education to provide teachers with a stronger understanding of implementing the new Literacy and Numeracy requirements for our students. This was followed by a brilliant panel discussion with four of our past students from the fields of medicine, accounting and law.
We then had Vicar for Māori Manuel Beasley guide staff through Māori Tikanga and use of an abundantly resourced Te Kamaka created by Manuel and team for all school students.
