Athletics Day 13 February 2025

The annual St Paul’s College Athletics Day, held on Thursday 13 February took boys to The Trust Area in West Auckland where the weather couldn't have been much better.

The energy was electric as students from Years 7 to 13, representing their respective houses—Champagnat, Xavier, Lavalla, and Aquinas— entered the Trust Arena. Sitting in their houses and with the help of the senior leaders, they were getting ready to compete in a wide range of track and field events.

From Mr Toua sending the competitors off to their first events, to the final relay race, the enthusiasm and competitive spirit was evident. Whether it was the sprints, long-distance races, high jump, discus or shot put, each event saw students pushing themselves to their limits, cheered on by their housemates. The camaraderie and sportsmanship on display reflected the school’s strong sense of community and pride.

Stand-out athletic performances came from all year levels with Leon Fotu (Year 7) dominating the sprinting events for Xavier or Matallis Vaihu (Year 8) accumulating over 150 points for his Champagnat house across a range of events. Dylan-Bailey Tuputala (Year 9) showcasing his speed across all running races, while Tane Keereweer-Taia (Year 13) taking top spot of fastest in the school. It was great to see boys showing off their talents.

As the day progressed, it became clear that all four houses were fiercely competing for the top spot. However, when the final scores were tallied, it was Xavier that emerged victorious, claiming the title of Athletics Day Champions. Their outstanding performances and support for one another made them deserving winners.

Congratulations to Xavier and to all students who gave their best effort throughout the day. Thank you to the teachers and students helpers who helped make the day run so smoothly.
