Senior Tag Team Claims Back-to-Back Auckland Champs Victory 2025

We are incredibly proud to announce that on 6 March 2025 our Senior Tag team has successfully defended their title as the Auckland Senior Tag Champions, winning the tournament for the second consecutive year!

The team represented our school with skill, determination, and, most importantly, our Marist Values. The competition started with three round-robin games, where our team showed resilience, drawing two games and securing one win. This placed them in a challenging position as they headed into the quarterfinals.

In a quarterfinal match against Rosmini College, the team gave an outstanding performance, securing an 8-2 victory and advancing to the semifinals.

The semifinal saw our boys face off against De La Salle College. It was a hard-fought match, but the team’s talent and determination shone through as they clinched an 8-5 win, sending them to the final.

The final saw our team play against Westlake Boys High School in a nail-biting contest. Despite the intense pressure, our young men held their composure and clinched the victory with a final score of 2-1, securing the Auckland Senior Tag Championship for the second year in a row!

While the skills displayed on the field were impressive, it’s the values our team demonstrated throughout the tournament that make us even prouder. The boys truly embodied the spirit of Mana, representing with pride and sportsmanship. Their hard work, respect for one another, and commitment to their values were evident in every game.

We couldn’t be prouder of these young men, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve next, both on and off the field. Their success is a testament to the power of teamwork, dedication, and the Marist spirit.

We would like to acknowledge our parents and ex-SPL students who supported us during the day - Confortare Esto Vir.

Congratulations, team!

Mrs Fiu and Ms Eniata

St Paul’s 1st XI vs ACG / Elim 1st XI: Improved batting effort but a tough day with the ball

For the third consecutive week, St Paul’s batted first and showed progress with a stronger start, reaching 39 before the third wicket fell. Solid middle-order partnerships of 43 and 47 helped the team to 5-129 at the 20-over mark, setting a good platform. However, a flurry of quick wickets halted momentum, and the team battled through to finish on 9-162 after 40 overs—slightly below a par score on a great batting pitch. Standout performances included a well-constructed 58 from Hugo Lloyd (65 balls), with valuable contributions from Cruz Scott, Drew Scott, and Sebastian Smith.

Defending the total, St Paul’s bowlers struggled with consistency, allowing ACG/Elim to race to 80/2 by the 12th over. A late burst of wickets at 125, 127, 130, and 144 gave a glimmer of hope, but ACG/Elim’s number six batter guided his team to victory with 22 not out.

Despite a much-improved batting effort, the bowling performance didn’t match previous weeks, serving as a valuable lesson in the importance of a well-rounded team effort in a competitive grade.

On Thursday 6 March, eight of our Year 7 & 8 students took part in the Central Zone Cricket Day.

This is the first time we have been able to attend this for the past 4 years due to weather and booking issues, so it was great for the opportunity to continue offering cricket to the Year 7 & 8 Cohort.

The team took part in the Boys Year 8 Grade and faced a tough Waikowhai Intermediate team with an extremely fast bowler. The team ended the game with a 41 - 25 loss. They then stepped up and improved to play Pasadena Intermediate, which saw some big hits and a close finish, ending 39-32 to Pasadena.

Well done to Kepueli Ahio, Jerome Crichton, Leon Fotu, Osteen Fruean, Roman Creed Pita, Magnus Purcell-Collins, Kaedyn Tumahai-Fox, Caleb Williams Seumanu. It was a great effort on the day, with lots of learnings for the team.

A special shout-out to our Year 12 Matthew Blanch, who came along as our scorer and provided the team with some expert tips and pointers, helping them out on the day.

Lawl Bowls

The Lawn Bowls Tournament was held at the Auckland Bowling Club and attended by 15 of our Year 9 and 10 students, together with Ms Washer and Ms Walker. There were nine schools represented, and 5 doubles games played, all competing for a win. We started the day with the school prayer, led by Augustine McClutchie, and finished with a heartfelt thanks to the organisers by our Team Captain, Jai Armstrong. The club generously provided a sausage sizzle and ice-block lunch, and the students enjoyed playing on the pool table at lunchtime. While we didn't secure a win, we all had a very enjoyable day meeting new people and learning how to bowl.
