Cricket week ending 20 Nov 2020
A win by default and a bye have stalled the momentum of our 1st XI in recent weeks, but if the interest in Year 7/8 is anything to go by, the future is bright for cricket at St Paul's College. The team has been training hard and with seniors leaving for NCEA exams, opportunities are presented to younger members of the 1st XI to step up.
I'm predicting big things from Year 10s Justus Telea & Enoka Sului, two excellent batsmen with power & great hand eye co-ordination. The team plays Lynfield College away this weekend, with all the practice under their belt, it should be a great game.
New Cricket Nets Opening
The weather came to the party for the opening of St Paul's new cricket nets facility.
A large crowd including old boys, ex headmasters, sponsors, Marist College, St Mary's College, Western Springs & NZ Cricket royalty were in attendance for the official launch of our new cricket nets.
Not to be left out, even 1 News @ 6pm sent a team of journalists who ran a prime time story on the history of cricket at St Paul's, noting that we've always had a cricket culture. Now we just have the right training facilities to fulfill our potential with the red ball as well as the oval one.
Captain Siupeli Aho spoke wonderfully, acknowledging the supporters of the project and thanking them for their support. An excellent afternoon and celebration of St Paul's favourite summer pastime.
