Music News week ending 28 May 2021

Thank you, reminders and the AGGS and SPL 2021 Musical Production...

Thank you to the parents who have been reminding their sons to practice their musical instruments at home. This is the key to success. As with sports, playing an instrument requires discipline, practice, and fitness. Playing a musical instrument and being part of a group/band requires commitment, dedication, and teamwork. It is often difficult when there is a lot going on in a young man's life to dedicate extra focussed time to home practice and rehearsals. However, it is essential to be at all rehearsals on time and ready to start, respecting the others in the group by being present.

REMINDERS:

  • College choir rehearsals are held in the music room at 3.30pm with Nainz. Week 5 & 6 rehearsals will be lunchtime Thursday (3 and 10 June) and then return to Friday from week 7.
  • Footloose rehearsals are Monday through to Wednesday after school. Your son will know which days he is needed at AGGS for these rehearsals.
  • Marist College and St Paul's Combined choir are rehearsing every Thursday after school in preparation for The Big Sing on the 22nd of June.

The AGGS and SPL 2021 Musical Production
The date: August 1986
The place: Huntley, a town in the mighty Waikato
The crime: Dancing

Footloose, the iconic 1980s set musical has been re-imagined by our director Suzy Smith-Roy. Watch as Ren, a city-slicker from Auckland, moves to Huntly and joins forces with wild-child Ariel, the preacher’s daughter, as they fight against Reverend Shaw’s decision to outlaw dancing after a tragic accident involving the town’s young people.

Following the success of our last stage production, Grease, AGGS is once again collaborating with St Paul’s College to create a spectacular show.

We will be selling advertisements for the show programme and if anyone knows of a group or company that might be interested in purchasing an advertisement or in providing sponsorship or other support (no matter how small) to help us make this our best production ever, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Mrs Harridge – the Producer – on [email protected] in the first instance.

We will send out more information in the weeks ahead, but for now – pop one of these dates in your diary 28 to 31 July and we will look forward to seeing you and your whanau at our production of Footloose.
