Our senior volleyball team continues its impressive start to the season with a win over Auckland Grammar Premiere Team. Stand out performers so far are Enoka Sului (Year 12), who is also an outstanding cricketer, and Ngatu Lui (Year 10) who is playing above his age group gaining valuable experience for Term 4 when he will lead our junior volleyball team into College Sport competition.

26.02.22 vs Auckland Grammar - By Dion Nash
Grammar won the toss and elected to have St Paul's bat first. Solomon Nash (Year 11) and William Piliu (Head Prefect) started the innings with a good-looking partnership of 60 that included strong boundary hitting and solid defence from both players. After such a good start St Paul's were unable to capitalise and post a really big score, losing too many regular wickets at key times. But solid contributions from Stephen Thomas (Year 11) and Justus Tele'a (Year 12) meant a respectable total of 122 was reached in the 20 overs.
To win, St Paul's would need to start well and they did, restricting Grammar to only 30 runs from the first ten overs. This was down to some wonderful team bowling lead by Stephen, Solomon, Alamoni, Enoka, Justus and William. Grammar were left needing over nine runs an over from the last ten overs to win the match, a tall order but one they attacked with gusto and coming close enough to raise a few nerves on the St Paul's sideline. In the end it was too much to ask though. St Paul's claimed the final wicket in the final over bowled by Alamoni Tuione to claim an excellent victory.
Wonderful fielding again as a team. This is back-to-back wins for the 1st XI and really encouraging as we head into finals.
Thank you to Mr Jose for umpiring and special mention to Mr Simento for his articulate and tidy scoring of the match!
